The Music Teacher at a Catholic school is responsible for developing and leading a vibrant music program that supports the school’s academic goals and faith-based mission. This teacher inspires students to explore music through singing, instruments, rhythm, theory, and performance, while integrating Catholic traditions and liturgical music.
Plan and deliver music instruction to students in various grade levels (PK–8, depending on school)
Teach music theory, vocal and instrumental performance, rhythm, and appreciation
Prepare students for school concerts, performances, and liturgical celebrations
Direct music for school Masses, prayer services, and other religious events
Foster a classroom environment that encourages creativity, participation, and respect
Incorporate Catholic hymns, seasonal liturgical music, and traditional sacred works
Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback
Collaborate with teachers and administration to support school-wide events and curriculum
Maintain music supplies, instruments, and equipment
Attend staff meetings, professional development, and school events as required
Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field
Teaching certification (if applicable or required by the diocese)
Practicing Catholic who supports the mission and values of Catholic education
Experience teaching music to children in a school or church setting
Proficiency in vocal and/or instrumental instruction
Ability to lead student choirs or ensembles
Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills
