Job Description

We're looking for a full-time Sushi Roller to join our tight-knit kitchen team!

The role is hands-on, the food is fresh, and we'll teach you everything you need to know.

No professional experience required - just bring a great attitude, reliability, and a willingness to learn. We're serious about doing things right and following systems, but we also keep things fun and supportive.

The role will be:

  • Full-time (approx. 40 hours) spread over 4 days each week - get 3 days off!
  • 4 days typically in our East Village location, but may also move around to our West Village or Williamsburg location when needed
  • $22/hour
  • Start date ASAP beginning with fully paid training with our fantastic kitchen team

You'll be a great fit if you:

  • Are reliable, show up on time and ready to go
  • Work hard, stay focused, and don't cut corners
  • Are good at working under pressure
  • Have an open schedule, including ability to work on weekends
  • Are proactive, self-motivated and take initiative
  • Communicate clearly and solve problems as they come up
  • Love being part of a collaborative team and creating good vibes
  • Are eager to learn and open to feedback
  • Are detail-oriented, follow systems and care about getting the details right
  • Have a NYC DOH Food Handler Certification

What you'll do in the role:

  • Prepare sushi rice and other simple ingredients according to established recipes and standards
  • Roll sushi hand rolls for our customers in-store (we can teach you everything)
  • Assist with prep in our central kitchen
  • Maintain a clean workstation and ensure all food handling and safety guidelines are strictly followed
  • Participate in inventory management, including tracking supplies and reporting shortages as needed

How to apply:

Please submit by email to alexandra@sushicounternyc.com:

  • A copy of your resume
  • A 1-minute video introducing yourself - nothing fancy! Just tell us who you are, why you're interested in this role, and what makes you a great teammate.

We won't schedule interviews without a video - this helps us find people who are genuinely interested and ready to show up.

We're a small team that cares a lot about doing things properly, treating people well, and serving really good food. If that sounds like your kind of place, we'd love to hear from you.

Pay: $22.00 per hour
