Cultural expertise in fostering

Black Foster Carers Alliance

Empowering diversity. Enriching lives. Strengthening care. Where lived experience meets system change. We build the cultural intelligence, training and community that make fostering safer, stronger and more affirming for Black and Global Majority children across the UK.

Our Mission

Empowering Futures, Strengthening Care

We exist to transform how the care system protects and supports Black and Global Majority children, so every child grows up safe, valued and proud of who they are. Through cultural intelligence, quality assurance and partnership, we work with foster carers, fostering services, commissioners and communities to deliver identity-affirming placements, strengthen safeguarding, and embed equity, accountability and excellence at every level of the system.

Carers

Thinking about fostering, Special Guardianship or kinship care? Whether you’re just curious or ready to start, we offer trusted guidance, culturally grounded training and a community that understands the journey.

Fostering Organisations

Local Authorities and Independent Fostering Agencies partner with us to close the transracial placement gap. We help you attract, support and retain foster carers — with CPD-accredited training, and evidence-informed practice support.

Strengthen your recruitment and retention of foster carers

Around 82% of the foster carer workforce is white, while roughly 25% of children in care are from Black and Global Majority backgrounds. We help you close that gap with evidence-informed strategies built for real-world fostering services.

We support your assessment process to improve quality, consistency and approval outcomes.

We strengthen support systems so foster carers are more likely to stay and thrive

Innovation

We design the platforms, frameworks and tools that change what’s possible — from BFCA Connect to the next generation of culturally intelligent infrastructure
